Shameik Moore Under Fire After Laura Harrier Posts Video: Here’s What Happened

Shameik Moore, known for voicing Miles Morales in Sony’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, has found himself embroiled in a public controversy after a post about Marvel actress Laura Harrier.

The Controversy Explained

The trouble began when Moore posted an old video of himself and Harrier at an event, captioned with “coming soon” and a music note emoji. Harrier, who played Liz in Spider-Man: Homecoming, took to TikTok to address the post, revealing that she asked Moore to remove it, as it implied a romantic connection between them. Harrier emphasized that she is engaged and uncomfortable with the post’s implications.

In a since-deleted TikTok video, Harrier called Moore a “f*cking weirdo” and expressed feeling disrespected, stating: “I don’t like my marriage being disrespected. I don’t like feeling disrespected myself. I asked somebody to take something down that you’re using my image to get attention with, and [then] not doing it? It’s weird.”

A day later, Moore released an apology video (since removed), claiming the situation was a “misunderstanding” and stating that he had “no ill intent.” He explained he intended the video to promote art, linking the aesthetic to a song and denying any insinuation of a romantic relationship.

A Pattern of Controversy for Moore

This isn’t Moore’s first social media controversy recently. He also found himself in hot water for an ill-timed tweet following the announcement of
his Spider-Verse co-star Hailee Steinfeld’s engagement. His post, “There’s still more people to meet. More opportunities to come. And more chances to try. Live, learn, apply,” was perceived by many as a response to Steinfeld’s engagement, sparking online speculation about his feelings.

Moore has consistently denied rumors of a romantic connection with Steinfeld, emphasizing that internet speculation has been overblown.

Taking a Step Back

Following the apology video to Harrier, Moore has removed all his social media presence, effectively going offline.

It remains to be seen if this controversy will impact Moore’s future roles, such as his anticipated return as Miles Morales in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
