Epstein Files Act Passes Congress With Overwhelming Support
The Jeffrey Epstein Files Openness Act passed through congress this Tuesday much faster than the recent disagreements between both parties over releasing the papers of the convicted sex offender suggested. it received almost unanimous support.only one representative, Clay Higgins (Republican from Louisiana), voted against the text. The rest – 427 congressmen and 100 senators – supported it. The Senate even used a process called “unanimous consent,” wich sent the text directly to President Donald Trump without debate.
The bill was scheduled to arrive at the White House on Wednesday morning, where Trump was expected to sign it. There was no bill-signing ceremony planned, and that remained the case throughout the morning. The president has promised to sign the act, despite months of resisting the release of the papers. On Monday, he told the press he was willing to “give everything” to those seeking transparency. “let the Senate examine them. Let anyone examine them,” he added.
However, “everything” may not be enough for victims. The law includes exceptions allowing the Department of Justice to withhold information, potentially making this declassification another disappointment for those seeking full clarity in the case.
