A dog named Cosmo is drawing laughs online after his owner shared a dramatic before‑and‑after look at his latest haircut, with viewers joking that the pup appeared to have turned his life around overnight.
The post, shared on Threads by user @lastellavita, showed two photos side by side: one of Cosmo with long, scruffy fur and another after a close trim, sitting upright and alert. The caption reads: “Every time Cosmo gets a haircut he looks like he went to rehab and decided to turn his life around.”
The comparison quickly resonated with social media users, many of whom flooded the comments with jokes and their own grooming glow‑ups.
One commenter wrote that a freshly groomed Cosmo “looks like he’s going to invite you to bible study if you accidentally make eye contact,” while another added that she knew “a few men with overly bushy beards who could learn something from this post.”
Others chimed in with photos of their own dogs before and after haircuts, sharing images of pups that were noticeably transformed post‑grooming, adding to the viral momentum.
As the post gained more than 53,000 likes on Threads, Cosmo’s owner leaned into the attention, creating a dedicated Instagram account for the dog. In a post announcing the new page, she said she plans to continue sharing photos of the adorable pup for new fans.
Cosmo is not the first pup to gain viral attention after a haircut. Earlier this month, a dog groomer shared a video of a pup who arrived in an unexpected state, with his head already shaved in a DIY attempt, but the rest of his fur still long.
Pet grooming is a sizable and expanding business in the United States. The U.S. pet grooming services market was valued at $2.06 billion in 2024 and is projected to grow by 6.7 percent through 2030. According to data cited by Gitnux, roughly 66 percent of dog owners take their pets to a professional groomer, typically visiting four to six times per year.
While some pet owners still opt for at‑home trims, convenience appears to drive many toward salons. About 40 percent of dog owners who use professional grooming services say they do so primarily because it saves time.
