Colombian Hospitals Recognized for Quality Care

let’s start with Cartagena. Within the city, the Serena del Mar hospital is well-equipped and run by the Santa Fe Foundation in Bogotá. Recently, it strengthened its partnership with the Special Surgery Hospital (HSS) in New York and earned a Silver Certification for person-focused care from Planetree International. Planetree is a non-profit association with over 40 years of experience, leading the way in humanized care.

this certification shows the hospital uses safe, collaborative practices. It improves the patient experience and builds trust between patients, families, and healthcare professionals.

The hospital was also the first in the Caribbean region to recieve Gold status for comprehensive stroke care from the World Stroke Organization (WSO) thru the Global Angels initiative.

The WSO recognized the hospital’s successful protocols and high standards of quality and safety. The award was part of the WSO Angels Awards, which honor hospitals with effective stroke treatment protocols and data that helps improve care.

This is just one example. ICONTEC publishes a yearly list of health accreditations for clinics and hospitals in Colombia.

It’s notable to no that this certification is voluntary, but it shows thes institutions meet the highest standards for medical care and patient safety.

At the end of last year, only 61 healthcare providers (IPS) across the country had earned this accreditation. Here are some from the Caribbean region:

  • Continental SAS Clinical Laboratory (locations in Barranquilla, Puerto Colombia, Santa Marta, and Cartagena)
  • Javeriana Foundation for Interuniversity Dental Services “Carlos Márquez Villegas” Javesalud IPS, in Barranquilla.
  • Bonnadonna Clinical Organization – Prevent SAS
