Comedy for Cats: Fundraising for Second Chance

If you love cats and a good laugh, an event happening Saturday, August 9th, might be perfect for you. “Comedy to the Rescue” aims to provide an evening of entertainment while benefiting a local cat rescue organization in Mercer County.

Second Chance for Cats has been dedicated to rescuing, sheltering, and providing spay and neuter services to felines as 2008, ultimately finding them permanent homes.

Recently, adoptions have significantly decreased, leaving the rescue far from its funding goals for caring for the over one hundred cats currently at their facility. Monthly food expenses alone exceed $3,000.

“The cost of spaying or neutering, vaccinations, and deworming adds up to around $300 per cat,” explains a representative from Second Chance for Cats. “We don’t recoup that amount through adoption fees, but our priority is finding loving homes for these animals.”

The rescue was pleasantly surprised when a comedian from out of state reached out wiht an offer to host a fundraising show. Clay Foley, a comedian with a background in animal cruelty inquiry and rescue work, is combining his passions for comedy and animal welfare.

“We’re eager to show him how welcoming and supportive the Bluefield community is and demonstrate our commitment to animals,” says a spokesperson for Second Chance for Cats.Organizers are excited to host a unique fundraising event, moving away from traditional methods. The RailYard’s “Clover Club” in downtown Bluefield, West Virginia, will host the family-pleasant comedy show, with all proceeds going directly to Second Chance for Cats. The rescue hopes this event will not only provide financial support but also encourage more people to volunteer, foster, or adopt cats.

“We’re hoping for a great turnout to enjoy the show, support the cats, and help us continue our work,” says a representative.

A silent auction will also be held during the event.

The show will take place at the Clover Club on Saturday, August 9th, at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the door or by contacting Second Chance for Cats via Facebook, phone (304-887-8681 / 304-320-9747), or email (secondchancecatswv@gmail.com).

The goal is simple: to bring smiles to faces while raising much-needed funds for veterinary care, food, shelter, and adoption programs.

Why Comedy for Cats?

Cats themselves are natural comedians, with their quirky behaviors, sudden bursts of energy, and sometimes utterly bewildered expressions. It’s no surprise that cat videos and memes dominate online content. “Comedy for Cats” taps into this existing love for feline humor and channels it into a force for good. It’s a way to celebrate the joy cats bring into our lives by giving back to those who dedicate their lives to helping them.
