Delray Beach Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Fatal Lake Worth Beach Robbery
A Palm Beach County jury found Traquanne Mosley, 26, of Delray Beach, guilty of first-degree murder, robbery, and aggravated assault with a firearm on Thursday, February 27, 2026. Circuit Court Judge John Parnofiello immediately sentenced Mosley to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The conviction stems from a robbery that resulted in the death of a man in Lake Worth Beach on May 29, 2020.
Details of the Crime
On the evening of May 29, 2020, Mosley and an accomplice, Lawrence Fleury, approached two men in the 700 block of South H Street in Lake Worth Beach. Jamie Ariel Tebalan Basquez, 34, was robbed of his wallet at gunpoint, containing $300. Fredias Alfaro-Alvarenga, 35, was fatally shot after refusing to surrender his money, according to prosecutors.
Investigation and Arrest
Following the shooting, Mosley and Fleury were arrested after a chase that spanned Broward and Palm Beach counties. During the arrest, Mosley allegedly pointed a gun at deputies, according to the arrest report.
Legal Proceedings and Sentencing
Mosley maintained his involvement in the robbery but denied being the shooter. Fleury pleaded guilty in May 2024 to accessory to murder and felony possession of a firearm, receiving an 18-year sentence with credit for over four years served. Prosecutors dropped charges of first-degree murder, robbery, and aggravated assault against Fleury as part of the plea deal.
Florida Law and Life Sentences
In Florida, a first-degree murder conviction is considered a capital felony, carrying a sentence of either death or life imprisonment without parole. A life sentence on this charge does not allow for parole or early release.
Case Prosecution
The case was investigated by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Bethany Johnson and Lauren Gutierrez.
