Indonesia Assures Fuel Supply Amid Global Uncertainty

Jakarta – PT Pertamina Patra Niaga has affirmed that Indonesia’s fuel supply remains secure despite ongoing global dynamics, including geopolitical tensions and the approaching Ramadan and Lebaran holidays in 2026. The company maintains a national fuel reserve equivalent to approximately 21 days of operational stock.

Current Fuel Reserves

According to Pertamina Patra Niaga Corporate Secretary Roberth MV Dumatubun, the 21-day reserve is a standard operational stock managed within the national energy logistics system to ensure smooth energy distribution across Indonesia. Pertamina Patra Niaga emphasizes that this supply is dynamic, continuously updated through domestic refinery production and planned imports.

Mitigation of Global Risks

Pertamina is actively monitoring the global situation and has implemented several anticipatory measures. These include diversifying sources of crude oil and fuel products, strengthening logistics and distribution resilience and optimizing domestic refinery operations. The company is also increasing coordination with the government and other stakeholders to address potential disruptions.

Storage Capacity and Future Plans

Indonesia’s current fuel storage capacity allows for reserves of up to 25 days. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia explained that this capacity is below the global consensus. The government, under the direction of President Prabowo Subianto, is planning to construct additional storage facilities to increase reserves to 90 days, aligning with the minimum global standard.

Distribution Network

Pertamina Patra Niaga operates an extensive distribution network, including 125 Fuel Terminals, 72 Aviation Fuel Terminals, and 40 LPG Terminals throughout Indonesia. Nearly 6,000 distribution units are deployed to serve over 16,000 retail outlets nationwide, ensuring energy access even in remote and island regions.

Public Appeal for Calm

Pertamina Patra Niaga has urged the public to remain calm and avoid panic buying, which can disrupt normal distribution channels. The company encourages consumers to purchase fuel according to their needs to maintain stable supply and equitable access for all communities.

Recent Reports of Increased Demand

Reports surfaced on March 6, 2026, of increased fuel purchases in the Aceh region, with residents lining up at gas stations and retail outlets carrying jerry cans. Pertamina Patra Niaga is monitoring the situation and working to ensure adequate supply in affected areas.

Pertamina Patra Niaga remains committed to securing Indonesia’s energy needs and ensuring a reliable fuel supply for all citizens.
