Jazz Forward Taylor Hendricks Suffers Season-Ending Injury

Utah Jazz forward Taylor Hendricks suffered a fractured right fibula and dislocated ankle during Monday night’s game against the Dallas Mavericks, according to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon. The injury occurred in the second half on a non-contact play as Hendricks was driving into the lane. He took an awkward step and collapsed to the floor with his ankle bent at an unnatural angle. Hendricks was immediately removed from the game on a stretcher.

The Jazz confirmed the right ankle injury on Twitter, stating that Hendricks would return to Utah with the team for further evaluation. MacMahon adds that Hendricks’ injury is considered a significant setback and could potentially end his season.

Hendricks, the ninth overall pick in last year’s draft, had been making his third start of the season. While his performance against the Mavericks wasn’t stellar, averaging just six points and six rebounds in the first two games, his potential as a young player was evident. Last season, he appeared in 40 games, including 23 starts, and averaged 7.3 points and 4.6 rebounds.

This unfortunate injury opens up significant playing time for other Jazz players. John Collins, who has primarily been a starter throughout his career, could find himself back in the lineup. Rookies Brice Sensabaugh, Cody Williams, and Kyle Filipowski could also see a considerable increase in minutes.

The Jazz will be looking for these players to step up and fill the void left by Hendricks’ absence.

Stay tuned for updates on Hendricks’ recovery and how the Jazz roster adjusts to this unexpected setback.
