RSCM Treats KontraS Activist Following Acid Attack

Jakarta – Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo National Hospital (RSCM) is providing intensive care to a KontraS activist, identified only by the initials AY (27), who was the victim of an acid attack. The victim arrived at the hospital’s Emergency Room (IGD) on Friday, March 13, 2026, at approximately midnight.

Extent of Injuries

According to a written statement released by RSCM on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, AY sustained burns to the face, neck, chest, back, and both arms. The victim also reported visual disturbances in the right eye. Initial examinations revealed exposure to acidic chemicals in the affected areas.

Medical assessments determined that approximately 20 percent of the victim’s total body surface area was burned. AY experienced severe chemical trauma to the right eye, resulting in impaired vision and corneal damage.

Treatment Provided

Upon arrival, the medical team immediately initiated irrigation to reduce the chemical effects and prevent further damage. Doctors have cleaned damaged tissue in the eye and transplanted amniotic membranes to protect the surface and promote healing.

Currently, the patient is being treated in the High Care Unit (HCU) under the care of a multidisciplinary team including ophthalmologists, reconstructive plastic surgeons, and emergency personnel. Treatment includes intensive wound care, antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, vitamins, and medication to stabilize eye pressure.

Patient Condition and Prognosis

RSCM reports that the patient’s general condition is currently stable and not life-threatening. However, medical treatment will continue in stages, potentially including tissue reconstruction and further procedures to restore vision function.
