Myanmar Junta Bombing Kills 40 during Full Moon Festival

jakarta – A military junta attack on a festival and protest event in Myanmar killed 40 people, including children.A participant and a local committee member shared details of the attack.

Myanmar has been in civil war as the military took power in a 2021 coup. This led pro-democracy rebels to arm themselves and team up with ethnic armed groups against the junta, according to reports.

Hundreds gathered in Chaung U, central Myanmar, for the Thadingyut full moon festival on Monday evening. The military dropped bombs on the crowd, a member of the organizing committee said.
