North Sumatra Governor reprimanded for Highest Inflation Rate in Indonesia

Jakarta,CNN Indonesia – The Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) has reprimanded the Governor of North Sumatra,Bobby Nasution,because the province recorded the highest inflation rate in Indonesia,at 5.32 percent year-on-year.

the reprimand was delivered by Secretary General of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Tomsi Tohir, during a Regional Inflation Control Coordination Meeting.The Ministry of Home Affairs also requested that nine other governors address the issue.

“Ladies and gentlemen, inflation of 5.32 percent in one province (North Sumatra) has been felt as a price change by the community. We ask for the attention of the governors, especially the 10 provinces with the highest rates,” Tomsi said in the coordination meeting on the Ministry of Home Affairs’ YouTube channel, Monday (6/10).

“Friends of the regional head and local government must work hard in these ‘red’ areas. Why? Because the others can, so others can (suppress inflation),” he added.

Tomsi even compared North Sumatra to mountainous Papua, acknowledging that field conditions in the mountains can hinder distribution. However, Papua still managed to record an inflation rate of 3.55 percent.
