U.S. Representative Jill Tokuda Donates Blood Amid Hawaii Shortage
Honolulu, HI – U.S. Representative Jill Tokuda (D-Hawaii) donated blood at the Blood Bank of Hawaii on Friday, March 13, 2026, as the state faces a critical blood shortage. The shortage is exacerbated by a powerful Kona Low weather system impacting the islands.
Urgent Necessitate for Donations
The Blood Bank of Hawaii announced earlier this week an urgent need for blood donations to ensure a sufficient supply for ongoing medical needs. “At times like this we need blood donations even more given that cancer treatments don’t stop, emergencies don’t stop, potential accidents,” Representative Tokuda stated. Hawaii News Now reported.
Specifically, the blood bank is appealing for donations from individuals with type O-negative blood, which is considered the universal donor type.
Tokuda Encourages Participation
Representative Tokuda emphasized the ease and importance of blood donation. “I came here, got in a chair. It was a quick, easy, simple donation, and you get snacks after,” she said. “So if you feel safe to arrive out and come donate, please be a life saver.”
