Study Reveals: This Blood Type Is Most Susceptible to Heart Disease

Jakarta – A study shows that blood type is closely related to health risks, especially heart disease and blood clots.

The research, published in the American Heart Association’s journal, Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and vascular Biology, involved more than 400,000 peopel. the results show a link between the ABO gene (which determines blood types A, B, or AB) and the risk of heart disease.

Blood Clot Risk Significantly Increased

The most significant findings relate to hazardous blood clots in the veins.Individuals with non-O blood types-A, B, and AB-face a higher risk of developing these clots. specifically, people with blood type A had a 20% higher risk, while those with blood type B had a 22% higher risk, and those with blood type AB had a 26% higher risk compared to those with blood type O.

Researchers believe this increased risk is due to higher levels of certain clotting factors, like von Willebrand factor, in people with non-O blood types. These factors contribute to increased blood viscosity and a greater tendency to form clots.

While having a non-O blood type doesn’t guarantee you’ll develop heart disease or blood clots, it does highlight a potential increased risk. Knowing your blood type can empower you to take proactive steps toward heart health.

What can you do? Regardless of your blood type, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is crucial. This includes a balanced diet, regular exercise, maintaining a healthy weight, and avoiding smoking. If you have concerns about your heart health, talk to your doctor about appropriate screenings and preventative measures.
