Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Shifts Portfolio: Exits Amazon, Invests in The New York Times

Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway has made significant changes to its investment portfolio, reducing its stake in Amazon and initiating a new position in The New York Times. These moves, revealed in Berkshire Hathaway’s latest holdings update, offer a glimpse into the investment strategy of the company under its new CEO, Greg Abel.

Amazon Stake Reduced

During the final quarter of 2025, Berkshire Hathaway sold 7.7 million shares of Amazon, resulting in proceeds of over $1.5 billion at current market prices. This reduction lowered Berkshire’s ownership in the e-commerce giant by two-thirds, to approximately 2.3 million shares, currently valued around $500 million. Amazon’s stock has experienced a decline of over 12% since the beginning of 2026, driven by concerns surrounding its substantial $200 billion investment plans in cloud computing and artificial intelligence.

Apple Position Trimmed

Berkshire Hathaway also decreased its holdings in Apple, selling 10.3 million shares between October and December 2025. The remaining stake in Apple is now valued at approximately $60 billion, a decrease from previous highs of $175 billion.

Investment in The New York Times

In a notable shift, Berkshire Hathaway established a new position in The New York Times, acquiring 5.1 million shares worth around $351 million as of the complete of 2025. This purchase represents a stake of over 3.1% in the company. The New York Times’ stock has seen a strong performance, gaining more than 50% in the past year and rising over 6% since the start of 2026. The announcement prompted a pre-market increase of more than 10% in NYT stock value.
