Jakarta, CNN Indonesia — Mayor of Prabumulih, South Sumatra, Arlan, has addressed the news regarding the removal or transfer of the Principal of SMPN 1 Prabumulih, Roni ardiansyah.
He also apologized for the polemic that has drawn public attention concerning the reasons for Roni’s transfer. Previously reported, Roni and a security officer at SMPN 1 Prabumulih were transferred for allegedly reprimanding Arlan’s son for bringing a car to school.
Arlan, through posts on his social media account, @cak.arlan_official on Tuesday (9/16),denied this claim. He stated that the accusation Roni was transferred for reprimanding his son was false.
In a video statement, he was seen alongside several officials from Prabumulih, including Deputy mayor Franky Nasri and Prabumulih Police Chief Indra Nobleman.
“I, as Mayor of Prabumulih, express my apology to Mr. Roni and the entire community of Prabumulih City,” Arlan said in the video statement uploaded Tuesday night on Instagram.
Arlan clarified that he did not transfer Roni, but rather reprimanded him. Though, he claimed the reprimand was related to issues involving other students, not his own child.
“The issue of false news, the media reported that Mr.Roni had been replaced and transferred to another school. This was false news,” Arlan said.
“I did not move Mr.Roni, I simply reprimanded Mr. Roni as ther was a case in that school that made students feel uncomfortable.”
