Qatar Warns Iran Conflict Escalating into Wider Regional War

A senior Qatari official stated on Wednesday that the Middle East has, “for all intents and purposes,” been engulfed in a regional war, a scenario governments in the region have warned about for years. Dr. Majed Al-Ansari, an advisor to the Qatari prime minister and the official spokesperson for the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, detailed the escalating tensions to CBS News [1].

Escalation Fears Realized

Al-Ansari explained that Gulf states had repeatedly cautioned that unchecked escalations, initially in Syria, then Gaza and Lebanon, carried the risk of spiraling into a larger conflict. According to Doha’s assessment, that prediction has now materialized. “We said very clearly that escalation left unchecked will result in a regional war,” he told CBS News. “What we have right now is, for all intents and purposes, a regional war.”

Iran’s Involvement and Regional Impact

The Qatari official stated that Iran has targeted seven Gulf countries since the recent escalations began on February 28th, drawing nations into a conflict they did not seek. [2] Qatar, while not directly part of the conflict, feels the impact, with missile alerts becoming a daily occurrence. [4]

Daily Life in Qatar Affected

Al-Ansari described a new reality for Qataris, with missile alerts disrupting daily life. “This is now a daily occurrence,” he said. “We are awakened at 4 a.m. By alerts on our phones.” He expressed concern for his daughters, stating, “I would have never expected for my daughters to live in a situation where missiles would be overhead almost constantly throughout the day.” [3]

Qatar’s Position

Despite the escalating tensions, Al-Ansari emphasized that Qatar is “not part of this war” but has been “dragged into this war.”
