Sri Mulyani Explains Reasons Behind Planned BPJS Health Contribution Increase

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia – Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani revealed the reasons behind the government’s plan to increase BPJS Health contributions gradually next year.

Sri Mulyani said the increase was carried out with the aim of maintaining the sustainability of the National Health Insurance Program and adding participants to receiving contributions (PBI).

“Sustainability of national health insurance will be very dependent on how many benefits are provided for membership. If the benefits are more and more costs,” said Sri Mulyani,in a meeting with a budget agency in the DPR on Thursday (8/21).According to her,the decision to increase the BPJS Health contribution tariff was also followed by adjusting the budget allocation for the PBI from the APBN.

“When the decision to increase the BPJS tariff decided that the PBI was raised, meaning from the APBN, but the self-reliant one was not raised, then provided partial subsidies. From Mandiri it was still Rp. 35 thousand, it should be Rp. 42 thousand to Rp. 7,000, it was paid by the government, especially PBPU,” she said.

Sri Mulyani does not want to reveal the amount of BPJS contribution that will be carried out next year. She emphasized that more detailed discussions related to contribution adjustment schemes will still be carried out by several related institutions such as the Ministry of Health and BPJS Health.

“We will process the process of discussing with the Minister of Health and BPKS Health because it is an institution that mandates to discuss,” she said.
