Sultan of yogyakarta Addresses Palace Succession and Female involvement

Yogyakarta, Indonesia – The Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), Sri sultan Hamengku Buwono, recently shared his thoughts on the future of the yogyakarta Palace and the important role women could play in its continuation. He spoke openly about this at the National Feeling Connection Forum held at the Sasono Hinggil Dwi Abad Building, yogyakarta Palace, on Sunday, October 26th.

The forum drew a distinguished group of attendees, including former Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Mahfud MD, former Deputy Chief of Police ahmad Dofiri, Head of the Archipelago Capital Authority (IKN) Basuki Hadimuljono, and Rosiana Silalahi.

The Sultan’s comments suggest a willingness to consider changes to customary succession practices.Historically, the throne has passed down through male lineage. However, he indicated a need to discuss how women could be involved in ensuring the palace’s longevity. It’s a conversation he believes is necessary for the future.

While details of potential changes weren’t fully outlined, the Sultan emphasized the importance of adapting to modern times. He didn’t offer a specific timeline for any decisions, but made it clear that the topic is being actively considered. This openness to discussion is a meaningful development.

The forum provided a platform for a broad exchange of ideas, and the Sultan’s remarks sparked considerable interest among those present. It appears this conversation will continue as Yogyakarta looks towards the future of its iconic palace.
