Understanding Camera Settings: Shutter Speed, ISO, and Exposure
Table of Contents
Shutter Speed
Shutter speed ranges from fastest (1/6,000 s) to slowest (1/6 or 1/4 s).
Capturing Motion:
* to freeze motion, use a faster shutter speed.
* To blur motion, use a slower shutter speed.
Controlling Lighting:
* to take a darker photo, use a faster shutter speed.
* To take a brighter photo, use a slower shutter speed.
ISO
To capture motion, use a higher ISO to stop motion and reduce motion blur.
Controlling Lighting:
* Use a higher ISO to take a brighter photo, but be aware this will introduce more noise.
* Use a lower ISO to take a photo with finer grain and less noise.
Exposure
* Higher exposures result in brighter images.
* Lower exposures result in darker images and can provide more detail.
* If you wont more light in shadowed areas, use a higher exposure.
