Friday’s Forecast
A cold front will push into northwest Iowa Friday morning, but most of the state will remain on the warm side of that front through Friday afternoon. South winds will once again be gusty, helping temperatures to warm into the upper 70s. Highs in the Des Moines metro area will likely top out around 78 degrees, but southern and southeastern Iowa may once again approach 80 degrees.
As the cold front pushes through central Iowa during the afternoon, expect hit-and-miss showers and a few storms. This won’t be a solid line of storms, so not every location will receive rain. Storm chances will likely be highest in the metro between 2 and 6 p.m.,a little earlier to the northwest, and later to the southeast. Any rain that develops should be out of the area by late evening.
Weekend Outlook
Temperatures will cool behind the front, falling into the 50s by Saturday morning. saturday should still be mild with highs in the low to mid-70s, but the cooler air will really push in Saturday night into Sunday.
This will come with at least a few more showers, tho rainfall totals will be on the light side. Rain will be out of the area by Sunday morning, making for a dry but cool start for the des Moines Marathon. Temperatures will be in the low to mid-40s with breezy north winds.
