British Police Accidentally Shot Victims During Synagogue Attack

Jakarta – British police admitted they may have accidentally shot two victims, one fatally, while attempting to subdue the attacker during the synagogue attack in Manchester.

The attack, which occurred on Thursday, October 2nd, resulted in the deaths of Adriandaulby, 53, and Melvincravitz, 66. A British man of Syrian descent deliberately drove his car into pedestrians and then stabbed several people outside the Heaton Park synagogue. This horrific event unfolded on yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.

Greater Manchester Police Chief Steve Watson stated that the attacker, who was shot and killed by armed officers at the scene, was not armed with a firearm. However, the police are investigating whether shots fired by officers inadvertently struck the victims during the chaotic confrontation. This is a critical point of the inquiry.

“We are working to understand exactly what happened and are reviewing body-worn video and other evidence,” Watson explained. “It’s vital we establish the full facts to provide clarity for the families involved and the wider community.”

The incident has prompted an independent investigation by the Independent office for Police Conduct (IOPC). They will examine the circumstances surrounding the police shooting and the potential for unintended harm to bystanders. This ensures clarity and accountability.

Authorities are treating the attack as a potential terror-related incident, though the motive is still under investigation. The community remains on high alert, and increased police presence is visible throughout Manchester.

This tragedy highlights the challenging and perilous situations police officers face, even when responding to acts of violence. the investigation will determine if protocols were followed and if any changes are needed to prevent similar incidents in the future.
