CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Browns undertook a trip for the first night of the NFL draft.

As if having one of the first five teams did not generate enough interest, the Browns decided to reward their subscribers with a Journey concert at Huntington Bank Field before the selections began.

Brent Rossi, Marketing Director of the Browns, commented that conversations about doing something beyond the typical Draft party began at the end of last season, when the Browns finished 3-14 and claimed to choose between the first 14 for the tenth time since the franchise returned in 1999.

In a survey, the Browns discovered that the three favorite rock bands of the subscribers were Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones and Journey.

Since there is no hope of another Zeppelin meeting and the Stones played in Cleveland last year, the option ended up being Journey.

“When you have the opportunity to combine one of the emblematic events of the NFL with a band like Journey, it was an easy decision for us in something we wanted to do for the subscribers, especially showing so much loyalty during the last decades and last year when the performance in the field did not meet expectations,” Rossi said.

It is not the first time that an NFL team tries to bring a great show for the draft. The Los Angeles Chargers had Snoop Dogg in the Sofi Stadium in 2022 during the first round.

The subscribers received free tickets equivalent to the number of seats in their account. The Browns said the final assistance was 25,081 people.

The fans gathered in their cars in the parking lots before the concert began.

This was the first first round of Cleveland since 2021, after they sent three first round selections to Houston in the exchange to acquire Deshaun Watson, whom they signed with a massive contract in what is on the way to become one of the worst exchanges in the history of the NFL.

Journey took the stage at 6:45 in the afternoon and was expected to play for 90 minutes, finishing their presentation just before the Browns should be on the clock with the second general selection. However, Cleveland made an exchange with Jacksonville and lowered three positions to the fifth, in addition to adding selections in the second and fourth rounds and the Jaguars first round selection in 2026.

He only took three songs to the members of the 2017 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to play what could be the theme for all teams this weekend and a franchise that has only had four winning seasons since 1999: “Don’t Stop Believing”.
