Flight Delays at Major Airports Due to Weather and Staffing
John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York is one of several airports across the country dealing with big ground delays. These problems are mainly because of strong winds making a shortage of workers even worse, and this worker shortage is linked to the ongoing government shutdown.
The cityS emergency management office says JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark Liberty airports are all currently having to limit flights.
JFK Airport has a complete ground stop until at least 11:59 p.m. ET due to not enough staff.The weather is also causing delays of more than one hour.
Newark Liberty International Airport is seeing arrival delays of up to three hours. LaGuardia is facing delays of over two hours, plus an extra 15-minute delay for departures.
“More restrictions might happen if things get worse. Travelers should expect widespread delays and check with their airlines for the latest flight data,” the city said in a statement.
The National Weather Service has a wind advisory until midnight. All three airports are experiencing wind gusts up to 45 miles per hour, according to The New York Post.

Ground delays have been issued at Orlando MCO, Austin-Bergstrom Airport, and Nashville International Airport due to a shortage of air traffic controllers.
