Social Security Payments: Who Receives Checks This Week and Potential Withholdings
The second wave of Social Security payments for September is being distributed this week. However, some recipients who were previously overpaid by the Social Security Governance (SSA) may receive reduced checks.
Earlier this year, the SSA announced it would begin withholding up to 50% of a recipient’s monthly benefit to recover overpayments made in prior payments.
The agency started sending overpayment notices in April and initiated benefit withholdings approximately 90 days later (around July 24th), continuing untill the full overpayment is repaid.
Who Gets Their Social Security Payment This week?
According to the SSA’s payment calendar, beneficiaries born on the 11th through the 20th of their birth month will receive their September Social Security benefit on Wednesday, September 17th.
When are Social Security Payments Sent?
Social Security benefits are primarily paid to recipients who are 62 or older, or those with qualifying disabilities. Payments are distributed according to a schedule based on the recipient’s birth date.
