Việt Nam Pledges Support for ASEAN chair 2025

HÀ NỘI – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Đặng Hoàng Giang has underscored Việt Nam’s commitment to closely coordinating with ASEAN Chair 2025 Malaysia, fellow member states and partners to ensure the success of the 47th ASEAN Summit and related meetings slated for October.

Deputy FM Giang, head of Việt Nam’s ASEAN SOM, made the statement at the Senior Officials’ Meetings (SOM) of ASEAN, ASEAN+3 and the East Asia Summit (EAS) that took place on September 9-10 in Port Dickson, Malaysia.

He emphasised the importance of maintaining ASEAN’s unity, centrality and leadership in addressing both customary and non-traditional security challenges, strengthening institutional capacity, and fostering synergy between ASEAN-led mechanisms to build a extensive and effective cooperation network serving the region’s interests.

at the meetings, senior officials discussed and agreed on preparations for the upcoming 47th ASEAN Summit and related meetings, including the agenda and documents to be submitted to leaders. They also exchanged views on regional and international issues of common concern, such as the Myanmar situation, the South China Sea issue, and food security.

giang highlighted Việt Nam’s proactive contributions to ASEAN’s efforts in addressing these challenges, and affirmed the country’s readiness to work with other member states to promote peace, stability and prosperity in the region.

He also attended a meeting between ASEAN senior officials and representatives of the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human rights (AICHR).
