Over 1,400 Dead After Earthquake in Afghanistan

Kabul – The death toll from the magnitude 6 earthquake that struck eastern Afghanistan has risen to at least 1,400 people. Thousands more were injured in what is being described as the worst earthquake to hit the country in recent years.

Rescue efforts in remote mountain villages are being slowed by the arduous terrain, according to Reuters on tuesday (2/9/2025).

Taliban government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid stated that 1,411 people died in Kunar Province, the area most affected, and 3,124 were injured.
