Yaoundé, Cameroon – The African Union Commission (AUC) has dispatched an Election Observation Mission (AU EOM) to the Republic of Cameroon, commencing its deployment on October 7th, 2025. This mission underscores the African Union’s commitment to promoting democratic governance and peaceful transitions of power across the continent. The AU EOM will remain in Cameroon until october 16th, 2025, following the completion of its observation duties.

The primary objective of the AU EOM is to provide an impartial assessment of the electoral process, ensuring it aligns with international standards for democratic elections, and also the African Union’s own normative framework for elections and democratic governance. Observers will focus on key aspects of the election, including the final stages of the campaign period, the logistical preparations for polling day, and the voting process itself.

Specifically, the mission will meticulously observe:

* Campaign Dynamics: assessing the fairness and transparency of the campaign environment, including media coverage and the freedom of assembly.
* Polling Day Operations: Monitoring the opening of polling stations, the availability of voting materials, and the accessibility of polling places for all eligible voters.
* Voting Conduct: Observing the voting process to ensure its secrecy, integrity, and adherence to established procedures.
* Vote Counting & Tallying: Verifying the accuracy and transparency of the vote counting and tallying processes at both polling station and central tabulation levels.
* Post-Election Environment: Assessing the overall post-election environment, including the handling of any disputes or grievances.

The deployment of the AU EOM follows an invitation from the Cameroonian government, demonstrating a collaborative approach to ensuring a credible and peaceful election. The mission’s findings will be compiled into a complete report, which will be shared with the Cameroonian authorities and other stakeholders. This report will include recommendations aimed at strengthening the electoral process and promoting democratic consolidation in Cameroon.
