Microsoft Accelerates AI Adoption in South Korea with New Initiatives

Microsoft is intensifying its focus on artificial intelligence (AI) adoption in South Korea, unveiling a comprehensive strategy to support Korean companies in becoming leaders in the AI era. The initiatives, announced at the ‘Microsoft AI Tour Seoul’ held at COEX on March 26, 2026, emphasize intelligent solutions designed to reshape business operations and drive sustainable growth.

AI Frontier Transition and Business Redesign

Scott Guthrie, Senior Vice President of Microsoft Cloud and AI, highlighted the importance of transitioning to an “AI frontier,” stating that it will be a key driver in creating new levels of performance and fundamentally redesigning business operations. Microsoft is focusing on helping organizations move beyond AI experimentation and apply it to core business processes.

Microsoft 365 Copilot Enhancements

Microsoft showcased the latest updates to Microsoft 365 Copilot, including Wave 3, which features significantly enhanced intelligent agent functions. These improvements provide a personalized agent experience within applications like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, leveraging “operate IQ” to understand user context. Copilot CoWork can integrate data from emails, schedules, and documents to plan and execute multi-stage tasks autonomously.

New Enterprise Offerings: Microsoft 365 E7

A new enterprise offering, Microsoft 365 E7, will be available starting May 1, 2026. This product line combines the existing E5 plan with Copilot and Agent 365, integrating Microsoft’s security solutions – including Entra, Defender, Intune, and Perview – to provide a secure environment for utilizing intelligent agents. Microsoft reports that over 90% of Fortune 500 companies have adopted Copilot, with paid user numbers increasing by more than 160% year-over-year.

Integrating AI into Existing Workflows

Guthrie emphasized the demand to integrate AI directly into existing workflows, within the tools employees already utilize. He stressed that success hinges on combining “intelligence” – an organization’s knowledge, data, and expertise – with “trust,” ensuring visibility and performance to enable confident AI scaling.

Korean Companies Showcase AI Innovation

The event featured innovation case studies from several leading Korean companies:

  • KT: Developed an ecosystem where employees can design AI agents tailored to their roles and workflows, transforming individual productivity gains into company-wide value.
  • Hyundai Futurenet: Achieved concrete results in improving customer experience in its department stores with the implementation of the AI assistant, Heidi.
  • Yonsei University Health System: Built an environment where medical staff can directly develop AI applications, integrating approximately 80 specialized apps into clinical trials.
  • Real World: Strengthening data utilization through a partnership with Microsoft to implement a robot model integrating cognition, movement, and control.
  • Hyundai AutoEver: Innovating its development environment by introducing GitHub Copilot.

Microsoft Korea’s Vision for AI Adoption

Cho Won-woo, CEO of Microsoft Korea, emphasized that the focus has shifted from whether to adopt AI to how to measure its impact and connect it to business performance. He expressed hope that Korean companies will be inspired by the execution-oriented roadmap and success frameworks presented at the event.
