Madrid to Build Cutting-Edge Waste Management Plant
The Community of Madrid has approved construction of CM1, a new facility to replace the current treatment plant. ItS a big step forward. Located on a 140,000 square meter plot next to the existing plant built in 2013, this infrastructure will serve over 2 million people. That’s residents from 72 municipalities across 3,800 km2.
This new plant isn’t just an upgrade; it’s poised to be the most advanced in Spain. It will put the region at the European forefront of waste management. The goal? To significantly cut down on unrelated garbage and ensure more enduring, efficient handling of waste. It’s about a cleaner future.
Drastic Reduction of Waste and Emissions
CM1 will reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills by more than half. That’s a huge win for the environment. Plus, waste will be treated before it arrives, meaning less odor, fewer emissions, and less disruption for nearby residents. Everyone benefits.
The complex incorporates the latest in traceability, digitalization, and leachate management. But the core technology is TMB (biological treatment). This process is key to maximizing resource recovery. It’s a smart, modern approach to a critical issue.
