Venezuelan President Ready too Declare Emergency if Attacked by US

Jakarta – Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro expressed readiness to announce a state of emergency due to the threat of US “aggression.” This follows a series of alleged US attacks on ships suspected of carrying drugs from Venezuela.

“Today the consultation process begins… to express an emergency in accordance with the constitution and protect our peopel, our peace, and our stability if Venezuela is attacked by America, militarily,” Maduro said in a televised speech, reported by the news agency AFP on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

Venezuelan Vice President Delcy rodriguez previously informed foreign diplomats that Maduro signed a decree granting himself “special powers” as head of state to act on defense and security matters should the United States “dare to attack our homeland.”
