Millions March Across US to Defend Democracy in “No Kings” Protests
Jakarta – Massive protests under the banner of “No Kings” swept across all 50 US states last weekend. Reports indicate over 7 million people participated, united in their defense of democracy.
The “No Kings” protests arose as a direct response to the presidency of Donald Trump. Many believe his current term is marked by increasingly authoritarian tendencies. This isn’t just a grassroots movement; Hollywood stars are also leveraging their platforms to speak out.
Oscar-winning actress Jamie Lee Curtis was among the most vocal. She shared numerous photos on Instagram of demonstrators carrying signs advocating for democracy.
“It doesn’t matter if this is the largest protest ever, the important thing is that we show up, stand up, adn say what we think and feel. Now is the time to work hard. We have one year to send a clear message at the ballot box – the voice of America,” Curtis wrote.
Mark Ruffalo, recently active in advocating for Palestinian freedom and condemning Israel’s actions in Gaza, joined the movement. He took to the streets of New York, delivering speeches and calling the protesters the “real Avengers.”
According to The Guardian, actor Robert De Niro also sharply criticized Trump, labeling him a “king wannabe” and urging the public to resist bullying tactics.
“The original ‘No kings’ protests happened 250 years ago. The American people decided they didn’t want to live under the rule of King George III. They declared independence and fought a bloody war for democracy. We’ve enjoyed two and a half centuries of democracy as then. Often
