Bulgarian Coalition Faces Internal Divisions as Key Figures Face Exclusion from Election Lists
SOFIA, Bulgaria – The We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria (PP-DB) coalition in Bulgaria is grappling with internal tensions as disagreements over candidate lists for the upcoming early parliamentary elections threaten to fracture the alliance. Recent statements from prominent figures within the coalition reveal a deepening rift, particularly concerning the inclusion of Yavor Bozhankov and Daniel Lorer on the electoral rolls.
Disagreements Over Candidate Lists
Yavor Bozhankov, a People’s Representative from PP-DB, publicly stated that he has been informed he will not be included on the coalition’s candidate lists. According to reports, Bozhankov claims that Asen Vassilev, co-leader of We Continue the Change, personally communicated his intention to exclude him. Bozhankov expressed his commitment to the coalition’s electoral success, even if it means working outside of a formal position on the lists.
Adding to the internal strife, Vassilev has also reportedly decided to exclude Daniel Lorer from the candidate lists. Vassilev confirmed this position, signaling a firm stance on the composition of the coalition’s electoral team.
Coalition Dynamics and Future Governance
The PP-DB coalition was formed prior to the 2023 elections and was part of the Denkov Government between 2023 and 2024. The alliance comprises We Continue the Change and Democratic Bulgaria, representing a broad spectrum of political ideologies including liberalism, anti-corruption efforts, and pro-Europeanism.
Vassilev has firmly rejected the possibility of forming a government with GERB and President Rumen Radev, emphasizing the importance of a clear vision for Bulgaria’s future within a strong Europe. He stated that the coalition remains united in its core priorities.
Upcoming Elections
Although the exact date is still under discussion, it is anticipated that the early parliamentary elections will likely be held in April. Vassilev indicated that a March 29th date is less probable.
The coming weeks will be crucial for the PP-DB coalition as they finalize their candidate lists and navigate these internal divisions ahead of the elections. The outcome of these negotiations will undoubtedly shape the political landscape of Bulgaria.
