1,400 Flights Canceled in a Day in the US Following Budget Impasse

Washington DC – More than 1,400 flights to, from, or within the United States of America (US) were canceled last Saturday. US authorities also asked airlines to reduce traffic during the federal government shutdown.

Reported by BBC on Sunday (9/11/2025), data from flight tracker flightaware showed that nearly 6,000 flights were also postponed on Saturday (8/11).That number is down from more than 7,000 postponements on friday (7/11).

The US Federal Aviation Governance (FAA) announced it would reduce air travel capacity by 10% at the nation’s 40 busiest airports as air traffic controllers,working without pay during the federal government shutdown,reported exhaustion.

Republicans adn Democrats have so far remained divided over how to end the deadlock in Congress. Simultaneously occurring, the federal government shutdown that began october 1 continues.

Saturday marked the 39th day of the longest shutdown in history as Republicans and Democrats still have not agreed on a funding resolution to reopen the government. senators remained in Washington over the weekend for bipartisan negotiations aimed at ending the federal government shutdown.
