President Radev Criticizes Political Brokers at Union Anniversary

President Rumen Radev delivered a highly politicized speech during the 140th anniversary of the Union, directly addressing Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov and cabinet members.

Rather than conventional commemorative remarks,Radev offered sharp criticism of the country’s governance, though he refrained from naming specific individuals. While he did not raise his fist as he did five years ago, he questioned whether citizens would allow the country to fall into the hands of those he termed “Derebans.”

“140 years after the Union, Bulgarians once again lament the influence of the Derebans, and major powers again compete for spheres of influence. There are political brokers willing to sacrifice our future for foreign favor, to undermine our sovereignty, our treasury, and even our identity – all for their own gain,” Radev stated.

He continued, expressing his observation that citizens are genuinely concerned about the direction of the country.
